Book Review: Geekerella

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Book Rating: 4.5/5

I used to work at a bookshop. One day I was checking out all the new books that had just arrived I came across this one. The first thing that caught my attention was the beautiful colors of the cover and then the title just got me. I consider myself a geek girl, and seeing a book that talks about a geek girl just sold me immediately.

Once I started reading it, I fell in love. I identified with Elle right away. Seeing her passion towards Starfield, how important that show was to her, and the way she interacted with the series…I just saw myself reflected with her. As the story progressed, I just kept falling and falling even deeper. Even though the plot had a few cliché elements, I didn’t mind them at all.

And then when I started reading about Darien, I was a bit hesitant at first. I mean, he was a famous actor, loved by many girls, and just perfect. But then, once I got to know him, I just felt the need to hug him and never let go. His thoughts and struggles just got to me, I was able to relate them somehow with my own thoughts and struggles.

I think Ashley Poston did an amazing job at portraying the geek community. At least, the geek community I belong to. How the passion is basically our lives and how everything feels so much real than it would to anyone else. It got to me to such an emotional level, it is definitely on my top favorite books.
